What is Anti-Slavery Day?

Anti-Slavery Day took place on the 18th October 2011. The day was established in 2010 to provide a focal point for raising awareness about the many people in the UK and around the world who continue to be trapped in modern slavery, and to promote the need for many individuals and organisations across society to play a part in ending it.

A parliamentary bill to create the day was championed by former MP and now Chairman of the Human Trafficking Foundation, Anthony Steen. The date also coincides with the European Anti-Trafficking Day.

A number of UK-based organisations which seek to end slavery, including human trafficking, in Britain and around the world are working together to call for an end to modern slavery once and for all. For a list of all participating organisations, please click here .

The UK has a rich history when campaigning against slavery which we must continue into the 21st Century.
